Join us for a panel discussion with leading practitioners across sectors on the topic of reporting and disclosure. The panelists will discuss the reporting their organizations each provide to their stakeholders and give insight into the rationale for disclosing or not disclosing.

Moderator:

Kate Chisholm, Chief Legal & Sustainability Officer of Capital Power Corporation.

Kate Chisholm has been a member of the senior executive team since July 2009 and played an instrumental role in Capital Power’s restructuring and Initial Public Offering that led to the company’s creation. Kate leads Capital Power’s legal, regulatory and compliance, environmental policy, government relations and external affairs teams, risk management and internal audit, and sustainability efforts. She has personally led significant and successful commercial negotiations, managed high stakes litigation and overseen important public policy influence strategies for Capital Power.
 
Prior to Capital Power, Kate served as EPCOR’s Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary from 2004 to 2009, and Vice President, Legal and Commercial for Alberta’s Transmission Administrator (now the Alberta Electric System Operator) from 1999 to 2003.

Kate has provided counsel and expert witness testimony in numerous electric utility hearings, including those arising from the restructuring of the Alberta electricity industry.

Kate obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Mount Allison University, her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta, and her MBA from Queen’s University.  She was awarded the prestigious “Robert V.A. Jones” Lifetime Achievement Award by the Canadian Corporate Counsel Association in 2008, appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2010, named one of Canada’s Top 50 Diversity Champions by Women of Influence Magazine in 2013, named one of Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women and given a Leadership in the Profession Award by WILL/Counsel Network/Association of Women Lawyers in 2014, and named one of Canada’s Top 50 General Counsels in 2016.

Kate currently serves on a number of boards and governing bodies, including the Alberta Securities Commission. She created the MORE mentoring program for high potential young professional women in Edmonton and was one of the founding members of Legal Leaders for Diversity, an association of Canadian general counsel who support and promote diversity and inclusion within the legal profession

Panel:

Tony Scozzafava, Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer, EPCOR

Tony Scozzafava is responsible for corporate finance, treasury, tax, internal audit and risk management functions within EPCOR.

Tony re-joined EPCOR in 2018 from Capital Power Corporation where he served as Vice President of Taxation and Treasury. Tony was part of the core team that led IPO process that led to the successful spin-off of Capital Power from EPCOR in 2009. He also served as CFO for Capital Power Income LP, a publicly traded income fund sponsored by Capital Power.

Prior to Capital Power, Tony spent eight years at EPCOR after time at both Enbridge and KPMG. Tony has extensive experience in the utility industry in areas related to corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, income and sales taxation, and corporate finance.

Tony graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Commerce degree with distinction followed by Chartered Accountant designation.

Tony is an active community member and serves on the Board of Directors for the Edmonton chapter of Wellspring, an organization that offers non-medical programs and services for cancer victims and families.


Brad Hamdon, General Counsel, University of Alberta

After graduating from the University of Alberta’s Law School in 1990, Brad spent time in private practice and in increasingly senior in-house legal roles in the energy and utility sectors before moving to the University of Alberta as General Counsel in 2004. As the University’s first General Counsel, Brad was tasked with establishing a legal department that could serve the unique needs of a university. 

In his role as General Counsel at the U of A, Brad manages all of the legal affairs of the University as well as overseeing the privacy and records management functions. He is also frequently consulted on governance issues.   Brad obtained his ICD.D designation in 2017.


Tina Antony, VP, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, Alberta Teachers Retirement Fund

Tina Antony is ATRF’s VP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and leads all legal and governance affairs across ATRF’s corporate and investment business lines.

Tina specializes in M&A, investment fund formation, governance, strategy and transformational change. Prior to joining ATRF, Tina was on the executive of publicly-traded entities and a securities partner at one of Canada’s largest national law firms for several years.

Tina was recently honoured as a C-Suite Executive of the Year. Tina holds an ICD.D from the Rotman School of Management, and Bachelors of Laws and of Music from the University of Calgary. She is a member of Women in Capital Markets, the Institute of Corporate Directors, the Governance Professionals of Canada, and the Alberta Law Society.



Jane Halford, FCA, ICD.D, Co-founder, Bolt Transition

Jane has a profile of service built on a foundation personal and professional skill honed during her 20 years career as a Chartered Accountant, regulator, corporate director, entrepreneur, and volunteer.

Jane is actively involved in the community through her service to not-for-profit and corporate boards including the United Way, Farm Credit Canada, Alberta Innovates, Hyduke Energy, and the Institute of Corporate Directors.

In 2013, Jane stepped out her role as CEO and Executive Director of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta to turn her passion into co-founding an innovative business, BOLT Transition Inc. BOLT is transforming how Canadian organizations approach leadership transition in the boardroom and the executive suite.
